Jim Truher has made a game called The Dungeon, very similar to The Dungeon Revealed, for us to play on our iPads and iPhones.

Check it out the new game here

**To the best of my knowledge this game will no longer run on current macintosh computers without the use of a very complited emulator program and disc images. For those of us that still enjoy a trip down memory lane I have left this page on the web. This page is no longer being updated.

This page is a tribute to the old classic mac game titled "Dungeon of Doom" later released commercially as "The Dungeon Revealed".

The page topics are listed to the left. Feel free to browse around to your hearts content but please do not send in comments as this site is no longer being updated ; (

The Dungeon of Doom and The Dungeon Revealed are copyrighted by John Raymond and Woodrose Editions. The graphics used on this page are adapted from the game and are not my creations.

Happy Orb Hunting! -Sidhia

Knight:
Knights have a better chance of guessing what, if any, magical properties armor may have.

Fighter: Fighters have a better chance of guessing what, if any, magical properties Weapons may have.

Sage: Sages have a better chance of guessing the nature of Scrolls.

Wizard: Wizards have a better chance of guessing the nature of Wands.

Alchemist: Alchemists have a better chance of guessing the effect a potion will have on your character.

Jeweler: Jewelers have a better chance of guessing the effect a ring will have on your character

Jones: I'm not sure what a Jones is good at. Their stats seem to be more balanced. Maybe they are less likely to be attacked by monsters?

A character can wear up to two rings at a time. Some rings are magically effected to be less than normally effective (-) or more than normally effective (+). Rings can also be cursed so that you need a "remove curse" scroll to remove them.

Monster Rings attract monsters to your character. This can actually be very useful. I recommend going down a few dungeon levels below your current experience level and putting on the ring to give you lots of monsters to slash though to quickly get up a level or two.

Rings of Regeneration cause you to regenerate hit points more rapidly. Very handy.

Rings of X-Ray vision allow you to see though walls

Armor comes in a variety of forms and materials. Some armour is magically cursed so that you can't remove it. Some armor is magically effected to be less than normally protective (-) or more than normally protective (+). For instance you may find Plate Armor +2. Better than Plate Armor +1, not as good as Plate Armor +4.

Leather Armor: This is the least effective protection available but quite light to wear allowing you to carry lots of loot!

Chain Armor: Chain Armor provides moderate protection and is of medium weight,

Plate Armor: This armor is very heavy but provides the best protection.

Elven Cloaks: An elven cloak is a light cloak that provide extra protection. Exactly HOW much protection is a good question. Contribute your knowledge!

Gloves: I know they are available in the game but I don't know how much protection they grant. Contribute your knowledge!

Helmets: Again I'm not sure how effective these are. If someone e mails me the info I will post it here. Contribute your knowledge!

Shields: Again I'm not sure how effective these are. If someone e mails me the info I will post it here. Contribute your knowledge!

Potions come in various colors such as pink, cyan, and magenta. Once you have taken the potion the effects will be revealed and from then on the potion will be correctly identified when you pick it up. The potion effects are unlearned if you accidentally read the forget scroll. Most of the potions are self explanatory.

Invisibility Potion: Makes you temporarily invisible
.
Speed Potion: Temporarily makes your character move faster. Great for running away or getting in extra attack rounds.

Confusion Potion: This potion makes you unable to control the direction your character moves or attacks for a period of time.

Muscle Potion: Permanently adds 1 or 2 points to your characters strength stats.

Blindness Potion: Causes your character to become temporarily blind.

Charisma Potion: Permanently adds 1 or 2 points to your characters charisma stats.

Dexterity Potion: Permanently adds 1 or 2 points to your characters dexterity stats.

Constitution Potion: Permanently adds 1 or 2 points to your characters constitution stats.

Scrolls are very handy. Some scrolls are only good for one use while others can be used up to 3 times. When you initially pick up a scroll it will be identified as Owe Staos Scroll or some other nonsensical words. Once you have read the scroll the effects will be revealed and from then on the scroll will be correctly identified when you pick it up.

Wishing Scroll: This scroll allows you to make 1-3 wishes. When you read the scroll a text box appears for you to type in the item you would like to wish for. I recommend wishing for Plate Armor +4, Ring of Regeneration +2, and a Death Blade +4.

Identify Scroll: You can use this scroll to identify the magical properties 1-3 items.

Protection Scroll: This scroll grants a temporary shield of protection.

Teleport Scroll: This Teleports your character to another area of the dungeon level you are currently on.

Wisdom Scroll: Permanently grants 1-2 extra wisdom points to your character.

Intelligence Scroll: Permanently grants 1-2 extra intelligence points to your character.

Forget Scroll: Erases all your accumulated knowledge of potions, scrolls, rings and wands.

Joke Scroll: According to Mathew George McDonald-Bates..."Joke scrolls are just that...It's like a Yay-Boo...Yay...got a scroll. Boo..(it's a) joke scroll...does nothing.

Wands mostly used as weapons or at least during combat. The exception is the Digging Wand. Wands have "charges" that indicate how many times they can be used.

Digging Wand: The Digging wand turns one interior boulder wall into a smaller boulder that can be pushed. Use the digging wands to gain access to hidden rooms in the dungeon. HINT: Keep a digging wand or two available for the last level of the dungeon.

Lightening Wand: Zaps monsters with a damaging lightning bolt.

Ice Wand: Attacks the monster with a jet of ice. NOTE: not effective on all creatures ....i think.

Fire Wand: Attacks the monster with a stream of fire. NOTE: not effective on all creatures ....i think

Polymorph Wand: The Polymorph Wand transforms the target into some other kind of monster. Not necessarily a monster that's easier to kill mind you.

Teleport Wand: This Wand teleports the target to some other location on the same dungeon level. Sometimes very far away sometimes not.

There are quite a few weapons in the game. My favorite is the Death blade.

Two Handed Sword: I think this gives the best damage.

Long Sword: Slightly less effective than the two handed sword but you can use a shied

Spear: Spears allow ranged combat.

Darts: Ranged weapons but not very effective.

Sling: Slightly more effective than darts.

Series II Mac: There are pretty rare to come across. I can't remember what kind of damage they do.

Deathblade: A super effective long sword. Cool!

There are two "Orbs"
... I've gotten two emails regarding this hint. One contributor says that that there are two obs, both of them on the 40th level and both of which if returned to the above ground world will end the game with victory. Another contributor wrote that there is only one REAL Orb, the one guarded by the DW (Dark Wizard), and another fake Orb hidden in armor on the 40th level. I personally have never seen the fake orb. Have you ended the game with an orb not guarded by the DW? Write me and be the tie breaker here...

A Sage knows Scrolls
...Sage's have a better chance of guessing the properties of a given Scroll

Some general tips for playing the game

1. Get a monster ring, go down a few levels and put the ring on. Lots of monster will attack you and you can hack away and get some quick experience points. -sidhia
2. Wish for a Death Blade, Plate Armor +4, and a re-generation ring +2. (I think rings only go to +2 not +4 but don't quote me on that.) -sidhia

Below are listed some questions I have received about running the game.

How do I run the game on my OS X Mac?

"The Dungeon Revealed" version of Dungeon of Doom runs on my Mac even with the OS 10.4.2. There is no need to use emulators just download The Dungeon Revelaed HERE and play to your hearts content.

How do I cure Vampire health damage?

From Sidhia: Vampire damage can be cured with "Life Potion" If you find these save them up as you will need lots of these potions later in the game.
Is an elven cloak over plate armour better than just wearing either separately? Please Contribute your knowledge.
Which items can be +2 or up to +4? Please Contribute your knowledge.
Which items should I wish for?
I always wish for a Death Blade, Plate Armor +4, and a re-generation ring +2. (I think rings only go to +2 not +4 but don't quote me on that) -sidhia
